There is equipment required for climbing outdoors that you wouldn't need on an indoor wall. You should also do your research on the types of shoes available for climbers. There are numerous styles and types available. Some are more to increase your grip while others have a pointier toe for getting into the nooks and crannies on the climb. You will need to try on a few pair to see what suits your best.

As you discover your style your training for rock climbing routine will be born. Your routine should include but not be limited to physical, technical and mental conditioning. You'll want to try and get down to an optimized weight, build muscle, increase your flexibility and develop your endurance.

The technical aspect of training includes instruction on the equipment needed as well as specific foot movements and agility. Balance is a big part of climbing and needs to coupled with knowing when to use your legs as opposed to your arm strength.
